As fall settles in, we caught up with Karen, our creative director, to discuss her latest mood board inspired by the cozy and crisp atmosphere of the season.
What specific element of fall inspired the color palette and textures you chose for this mood?
The energy of the season really shaped the palette. As we start to nestle in and cocoon ourselves for the colder months, I wanted to create something that reflected that warmth and coziness. The textures are soft and luxurious, with a lot of natural fibers that have dimension and depth. It’s about encouraging a slower pace–inviting people to explore the space, to touch and feel the materials, and to feel comforted by them.
How do the textures you selected contribute to the overall feel or warmth of the design?
These materials have a very welcoming quality. Using weaves, soft and inviting fabric that makes you want to wrap yourself in–to feel safe and held. It’s like the warmth of a cozy blanket that invites you to sit and relax. That’s the feeling I want to evoke–comfort, peace, and a sense of being grounded.
Were there any staples that influenced your selection for the fall season?
I pulled inspirations from the natural elements around us–rock, soil, trees, and water. Living very close to a mountainous environment, I'm drawn to the lush, redolent atmosphere of the forest floor, the mist and fog, and that crisp morning air we get in fall. It all ties back to nature and how we can bring those elements inside.
Is there a particular mood or atmosphere you want to evoke with the materials and textures you’ve included?
I want people to feel like they’re wrapped in a cozy blanket, enjoying that fresh fall air from the comfort of their homes. It’s about finding stillness and slowing down, savoring the moment instead of being out exploring. You sit back, enjoy the scenery with a warm cup of coffee or tea, and just take it all in.
What was the thought process behind selecting these particular pieces for the fall design?
I really focused on how to marry the energy of the season with the materials and colors. I wanted to capture that sense of warmth and simplicity. Nothing ornate or complex–just simple, quiet textures and patterns. The line art on the fabrics, for example, is very calming. It doesn’t demand attention but instead allows you to feel neutral and grounded. It’s all about creating a space where you can let go of tension and feel at peace.
