Creating a beautiful and functional workspace is essential in any home. In 2023, we had the pleasure of designing a home from the ground up, featuring a bespoke desk for a stunning lake house in Invermere, BC. The home’s warm and minimal aesthetic is perfect for family connection and entertaining extended stay visitors. This custom desk was designed to complement this inviting and sustainable environment.
We selected rift cut white oak for the desk and a black frame for the glass grid wall to flow seamlessly with the other finishes in the home. The spacious desk was positioned in front of the glass wall overlooking the living room and the lake, allowing it to be admired from all angles and for the homeowner to enjoy the view while at work.
One of the main challenges was incorporating sufficient storage and functionality while maintaining a clean, minimal look. We carefully planned the placement of storage and cutouts for office appliances and wires in collaboration with the client to ensure everything fit seamlessly while preserving the minimal aesthetic. Our craftsmen, Artero Customs, paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the desk looked beautiful from every perspective and met the highest standards of quality and aesthetics.
Today, the desk allows the homeowner to enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake while working. It integrates seamlessly into the home’s interior, serving as a focal point visible from various angles and spaces, creating a harmonious connection between work and family life.
The client appreciated how the desk allowed them to stay connected with family and house activities while working, rather than being isolated in a separate room.
