The Strategy.

We were hired to complete a full-gut renovation of an awkwardly shaped walkout. We maximized the unusual floor plan to create a flexible space that can be opened up for social gatherings but also allows for private space.

There were significant challenges to overcome in working with the existing building envelope and systems.

Capturing the personalities and preferences of each child was important while maintaining a cohesive set of finishes that identify the space as belonging to the rest of the home.

The Vision

Our mandate was to create a self-contained and contemporary extension of the house that serves as shared living, sleeping and hangout space for two teenage girls.

This space can be repurposed in the future for other uses such as a gym or guest suite. The hallway shelving also contains a secret door to a storage space.

Durable, water-resistant finishes were important on the built-in desks and A walk-in steam shower allows for plenty of storage.
